Crochet Notepad and Pencil Case Pattern / Hand Bag Pattern

This crochet pad and pencil pouch pattern is also a crochet bag pattern. You can easily attach either a hook strap to it or make a crochet strap and attach it. This could also be used as a crochet cellphone carry bag and wallet. The possibilities are really endless with this handy crochet travel bag.


Materials Required:

4 oz Light Worsted weight yarn - Main Color

1 oz Light Worsted weight yarn - White

Crochet hook No. 00.

Yarn Needle


Gauge: 5 sts and 5 rows = 1 inch


Measurements: 8.5 inches long (does not include flap) and 6 inches wide

Abbreviations:

ch - chain

st - stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

sc 2 tog - single crochet two together

This pouch will hold one pen or pencil, one 3 inch x 5 inch pad and is also a hand bag! You can put another medium size notebook inside or whatever you need to carry with you.


Back:

With main color, Ch 38.

Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc in each chain across, ch 1, turn.

Row 2 - 28: 1 sc in each sc across. (37 sc) Fasten off.


Front:

With main color, Ch 38.

Row 1: sc in second ch from hook, sc in each chain across, ch 1, turn.

Row 2-10: 1 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. (37 sc)

Row 11: 1 sc in each of the first 28 sc, ch 1, turn.

Row 12 - 26: 1 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. (28 sc), Fasten off.

Next Row: Fasten yarn to the next unworked stitch from row 10. Work 1 sc in each sc to the end, ch 1, turn. (9 sc)

Next 14 Rows: sc across, ch 1, turn.

Next row: 1 sc in each sc, 1 sc in each of the 28 sc of the opposite side, ch 1, turn.

Next 2 rows: 1 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Fasten off.

Pencil Holder:

Row 1:With main color ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next st of ch, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: 2 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Attach White, 2 sc in the first sc, sc 2, 2 sc in next sc, ch 1, turn.

Row 4: 1 sc in each sc, drop white, ch 1, turn.

Working even in single crochet: work 2 rows main color, 2 rows white until there are 6 stripes of each color.

Work 2 more rows in main color, fasten off.

Sew this to the front, just to the left of the notepad opening, leaving the last row free.


Place the front onto the back and attach main color to the upper left corner and sc, through both the front and back simultaneously, around the left side, bottom and right side, fasten off.

Flap:

With Main color, ch 33.

Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn.

Row 2 - 21: 1 sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn.

Row 20: sc 31, 3 sc in the next (corner sts), sc 17 along the short edge, 3 sc in corner st, sc 31 along the long edge, fasten off.


With the right side facing, attach white in the second st of the long side, ch 3, 3 dc in the same space, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook into the 3rd st of the beginning chain, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten,

*ch 1, skip 1 sc, popcorn st in next sc, (Popcorn st: 4 dc in the same space, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook into the 1st dc, pull loop through, ch 1 to tighten.), repeat from * to corner, 1 popcorn stitch in each of the three corner stitches, repeat from * to corner, 1 popcorn stitch in each corner stitch again, repeat from * to end. Fasten off.

Attach white to the other side of the flap (in the first popcorn stitch), work 1 row of sc around the 3 sides working 1 sc in each st and 3 sc in each center corner st, fasten off.

Sew this flap to the top of the back section, making sure that it is facing the right way when closed.

Handle:

With main color, ch 5.

Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, ch 1, turn.

Row 2 - 16: sc across, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 17: 2 sc in first sc, sc 2, 2 sc in last sc, ch 1, turn.(6 sc)

Row 18: 2 sc in first sc, sc 2, 2 sc in next sc, sc 2, do not ch 1, do not turn. (8 sc)

Join to 1 st sc to form a ring and now work in the round, joining and turning.

Rnd 1: 1 sc in same sc as the join, sc 7, using white slip stitch to join, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 2: 1 sc in each sc, join, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: 1 sc in each sc, using main color slip stitch to join, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 4: 1 sc in each sc, join, ch 1, turn.

Repeat rnds 1-4 three more times and rnds 1-2 once. Fasten off white.

Changing back to rows:

Next row: With main color, sc 2 tog, sc 2, sc 2 tog, sc 2 tog, ch 1, turn.

Next row: sc 2 tog, sc 2, sc 2 tog, ch 1, turn.

Next 16 rows: sc across, ch 1, turn.

Fasten off. Sew to the top of the back so that the side seam of the bag lies in the center of the handle. Also, make sure to have the V, from where the handle turns from rows to rounds, facing down.

Button loop:

Leaving enough yarn at each end, ch 12, fasten off.

Sew to the very top of the back, inside the pouch.

Sew the button on, center front, about an inch below the very top.
