Crochet Bowling Ball and Pin Pattern
This bowling ball and pin set is great for kids. Soft but sturdy and durably made with medium weight yarn. This pattern is for intermediate to expert crocheters. Made with simple crochet stitches but a lot of shaping goes into making this bowling ball and pin set.
Materials:
size H crochet hook
Medium weight yarn in white, red and black
Stuffing
Yarn needle
optional- cardboard circle (one for each pin) measuring 2.5 inches in diameter.
Gauge:
3 sts and 4 rows = 1 inch
PIN:
Make as many as you like.
Worked in spiral (round but not joined) starting with white.
Ch 2
rnd 1: sc 6 in second ch from hook. (Magic loop can be used)
rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
rnd 3: *1 sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around.
rnd 4: *1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around.
rnd 5: *1 sc in next 3 sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around.
rnd 6 - 20: sc around
Place cardboard circle at bottom and place some stuffing on top to keep in place.
rnd 21: *sc in next 3 sc, sc 2 together* repeat around.
rnd 22: sc around
rnd 23: *sc in next 2 sc, sc 2 together* repeat around.
rnd 24: sc around, change to red.
Stuff the bottom.
rnd 25: *sc in next sc, sc 2 together* repeat around.
rnd 26-27: sc around
rnd 28: *sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around, change to white.
rnd 29-34: sc around.
Stuff again.
rnd 35: *sc in next sc, sc 2 together* repeat around.
rnd 36: *sc 2 together* around.
End- cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail, weave tail around the stitches of the last row twice, pull tight, fasten off.
Ball:
Using black yarn:
First make the fingers that will be attached to the holes made in the ball.
Fingers:
Rnd 1-ch 2, 6 scs in second ch from hook.
Rnd 2-*sc in next two scs, 2 scs in next sc* around.
Rnd 3-8- sc around. cut, leave 12 inch tail for sewing onto ball later on, fasten off.
Repeat Rnd 1-8, 3 times.
Ball:
The first three rounds are worked in spiral, then back and forth until row 7, then back to spiral.
Ch2
rnd 1: sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook, (Magic loop can be used). (6 sts)
rnd 2: 2 scs in each sc around. (12 sts)
rnd 3: sc, 2 scs in next, sc, ch 1, turn (4 sts)
row 4: sc, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 2 scs, ch 1, turn. (5 sts)
row 5: sc 2, 2 scs in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 scs in last, ch 1, turn. (7 sts)
row 6: sc 2, 2 scs in next sc, sc across, cut yarn, fasten off.(8 sts)
Now (skip 1 st of round 2 and reattach yarn. Repeat rows 3-6) twice. Do not cut yarn after third section is made.
Now working back in the round.
rnd 7: *ch 3, 2 scs in first sc of next section, sc in next 2 scs, 2 scs in next sc, sc in the next 3 SC, 2 SC in the next* repeat from * 2 more times. (36 sts)
rnd 8: *3 scs in 3-ch loop, sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 6 scs, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 2 scs* repeat 1 more time then:
3 scs in 3-ch loop, sc in next sc, 2 scs in next sc, sc in next 6 scs, 2 scs in next. (leaving out the last two scs, place round end marker here.)
rnd 9: *sc in next 7 scs, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around. (54 scs)
rnd 10: *sc in next 8 scs, 2 scs in next sc* repeat around. (60 scs)
Now sew your three fingers to the inside of the ball at the three holes made. Tie the three
fingers together at the bottom and shoved some stuffing in the middle to make sure they
won't all get pushed to the edges of the ball when stuffed at the end.
rnd 11-23: sc around.
rnd 24:(starting decrease) *sc in next 8 scs, sc 2 together* repeat around. (56 sts)
rnd 25: *sc in next 7 scs, sc 2 together* repeat around. (48 sts)
rnd 26: *sc in next 6 scs, sc 2 together* repeat round. (42 sts)
rnd 27: *sc in next 5 scs, sc 2 together* repeat around. (36 sts)
rnd 28: *sc in next 4 scs, sc 2 together* repeat around. (30 sts)
rnd 29: *sc in next 3 scs, sc 2 together* repeat around. (24 sts)
Stuff the ball at this point.
rnd 30: *sc in next 2 scs, sc 2 together* repeat around. (18 sts)
rnd 31: *sc in next sc, sc 2 together* repeat around. (12 sts)
rnd 32: *sc 2 together* repeat around. (6 sts)
End- cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail, weave tail through remaining stitches twice, pull tight, cut
remaining yarn.
