Toddler Crochet Pants Pattern - Shell Stitch

This crochet shell stitch toddler pants pattern is crocheted from the bottom up, one leg at a time, and then connected to work the up to finish at the waist.






Materials:

3(4) oz Light Weight Yarn

Crochet Hook size G


Gauge:

2 - 4 dc shell = 2 inches, 6 rows = 2 inches

Leg: (make 2)


Ch 5

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

Row 2 - 24(28): sc in back loop only across, ch 1, turn.


Place the starting chain and last row together and slip stitch across, making sure it is not twisted, using both the sc loops of the last row and the free loop from the starting chain.


Rnd 1: ch 1, make 6(8) evenly spaced 4 dc shells using each row end as a space, working as - *sc in first space, skip 1 space, 4 dc in next space, skip 1 space, repeat from * around, slip stitch in first sc to join, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 2: dc in sc, sc in space between two center dcs of the next shell, *4 dc in next sc, sc in space between the two center dcs of next shell, repeat from * around, ending with 2 dc in the same stitch as first dc, sl st to top of starting ch 3, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: sc is same stitch as join, 4 dc in next sc, *sc in space between the two center dcs of next shell, 4 dc in next sc, repeat from * around, ending with sl st to first sc, ch 3, turn.

Repeat rnd 2 and 3 twice then rnd 2 once (8 rnds).

Rnd 9: dc in sc, sc in space between two center dcs of the next shell, *5 dc in next sc, sc in space between the two center dcs of next shell, repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in the same stitch as first dc, sl st to top of starting ch 3, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 10: sc is same stitch as join, 5 dc in next sc, *sc in center stitch of next shell, 5 dc in next sc, repeat from * around, ending with sl st to first sc, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 11: dc in sc, sc in center dc of the next shell, *5 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell, repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in the same stitch as first dc, sl st to top of starting ch 3, ch 1, turn.

Repeat rnd 10 and 11 then rnd 10 once. (16 rnds)

Rnd 17: 2 dc in sc, sc in center dc of the next shell, *6 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell, repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in the same stitch as first dc, sl st to top of starting ch 3, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 18: sc is same stitch as join, 6 dc in next sc, *sc between the two center dcs of next shell, 6 dc in next sc, repeat from * around, ending with sl st to first sc, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 19: 2 dc in sc, sc between the two center dcs of next shell, *6 dc in next sc, sc between the two center dcs of next shell, repeat from * around, ending with 3 dc in the same stitch as first dc, sl st to top of starting ch 3, ch 1, turn.

Repeat rnd 18 and 19 twice then rnd 18 once. (24 rnds)

For larger size repeat rnd 18 and 19 four times then rnd 18 once. (28 rnds)


Now there will be two rows:

Row 1: sc in the same stitch as join, (6 dc in next sc, sc between the two center stitches of the next shell) twice, ch 3, turn.

Row 2: 2 dc in sc, (sc between the two center stitches of the next shell, 6 dc in next sc) twice, sc between the two center stitches of the next shell, 3 dc in last sc, for first let - fasten off, for second leg continue.


Pick up the 1st leg made and place the stitches from the last row behind the stitches from the last row of leg 2. Slip stitch across all row 2 stitches using one stitch from leg one and the corresponding stitch from leg 2.

Working in the round:

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 3 dc around last dc of row 2, sc around the beginning sc of row 1, (7 dc shell in next sc, sc in the space between the two center stitches of next shell) around, ending with sc around the last sc of row 2, 3 dc in same space and beginning 2 dc, join with slst to top of starting ch, ch 1, turn.


Rnd 2: sc in the same space as join, 7 dc shell in next sc, (sc in center stitch of next shell, 7 dc shell in next sc) around, join with slst to first sc, ch 3, turn.

Rnd 3: 3 dc in the same space as join, sc in center stitch of next shell, (7 dc shell in next sc, sc in center stitch of next shell) around, ending with 3 dc in the same space and beginning 3 dc, ch 1, turn.

Repeat the last two rounds 4 more times, then round 2 once ending with ch 1, turn.

Rnd 13: sc in first sc, sc in each dc, (sc, sc in each dc) around, join with slst to first sc, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 14-19: sc around, join with sl st, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 20: ch 1, (2 ch total) dc around, join, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 21-22: sc around, join, ch 1, turn.


Fasten off leaving a 2 ft tail. With the right side facing, fold the last 5 rows down so that the last round meets the top of the last shell round, sew in place.


For the tie make a crochet chain 2 ft long and weave into round 20 (dc round).
