This is a simple crocheted hat pattern with a ribbed border. This hat can be made in any yarn with any hook by checking your gauge and measurements.

Materials:

All optional, use what you'd like:

Hook size: H yarn: worsted weight

Starting off, chain 11.

Row 1: Single crochet in second chain from hook, and each chain across, chain 1, turn.(10 sts)

Row 2: Working in BACK LOOP ONLY, 1 sc in each SC around. (10 sts)

This will create a crochet rib. Work row 2 until this is long enough to fit around the head you'd like it to fit. If you are making this as a gift and aren't sure exact measurements: child - 16", adult small - 20", medium - 22", large - 24".

Now you have your border (bottom), to start making the dome:

Connect the two ends by slip stitch using front loop only of last row worked and open chain loop from starting chain:

All the way across. (10 slip stitches)

Flip the ribbing around so that the joining stitches are on the inside.

Simple basic single crochet hat dome, I've done this with so many different crochet techniques, really the possibilities are endless. I've done flower borders, I've done knit cable borders, and just did a simple dome. You can come up with some really good stuff.

Rnd 1 of Dome: Working along the side of your crocheted rib - chain 1, work 1 single crochet in the end of each row around, place marker for round end:

Rnd 2-13: (Or until hat measures 5 inches from bottom of rib to top of last row completed, 4 inches for child size). Working in rounds, one single crochet in every single crochet around.

Here your going to have to divide your stitch count by 6. If there are any remainders then single crochet around while decreasing that number of stitches, as evenly as possible, around. For instance: if you have 76 sts - 76 / 6 = 12 with a remainder of 4. So, 76 / 4 = 19 So you would work I round by *SC 17, SC 2 tog* around. Using stitch 18 and 19 to decrease.

Next Rnd: using the number of stitches you have divided by 6 - (Be sure to use the last two stitches for the sc2tog decrease, if you have 8 sts then SC 6 then sc2tog) SC around decreasing 6 stitches evenly.

Repeat last round until there are 6 stitches left. Cut yarn leaving a 6 inch tail. We've this tail around the last 6 stitches and pull them tight, fasten off.
